What is the TZS wallet?
The TZS wallet lets you hold Tanzanian shillings in your NALA app, alongside your GBP or EUR wallet. You can convert when the rate suits you, add money with mobile money, and send to bank accounts and mobile money in Tanzania without converting every time.

Adding money
How can I add money to my TZS wallet?
Request Money: pay from a Tanzanian mobile money wallet (see below)
Convert: move money from your GBP or EUR wallet into TZS
Which mobile money networks can I use?
Mixx by Yas (Tigo Pesa) and Airtel Money.
M-Pesa and Halotel can't be used to add money to your TZS wallet at the moment.
How do I add money with Request Money?
Open your TZS wallet and tap Request Money.
Enter the amount. The minimum amount is shown on the screen.
Enter the Mixx by Yas or Airtel Money number that will pay. It can be your own number, or a friend's or family member's.
The person paying gets a prompt on their phone. They have 1–5 minutes to approve it.
Once approved, the money is added to your TZS wallet and you'll get a notification.
Can someone else add money to my TZS wallet?
Yes. Friends and family in Tanzania can pay your Request Money prompt from their own Mixx by Yas or Airtel Money wallet.
My top-up expired. What should I do?
If the prompt wasn't approved in time, it expires and no money is taken. You can try again straight away. Expired attempts don't count against your limits.
Money left the mobile wallet but didn't reach my TZS wallet. What should I do?
Sometimes mobile money payments take a little while to confirm. If the money hasn't arrived, contact NALA Support in the app and share the SMS confirmation or transaction reference. We'll check with the network and either add the money to your wallet or get it sent back to the mobile wallet it came from.
Converting
Can I convert between GBP/EUR and TZS?
Yes, both ways, whenever you like. You'll see the rate and the exact amount before you confirm.
Sending
Where can I send money from my TZS wallet?
To bank accounts and mobile money in Tanzania, your own or someone else's. You don't need to convert each time, because you're sending from your TZS balance.
Withdrawing
How do I get my money back to my UK or EU bank?
Convert your TZS to GBP or EUR in the app.
Withdraw from your GBP or EUR wallet to your bank account.
You can't withdraw TZS directly to a UK or EU bank account.
Fees and limits
Are there any fees?
Any fee for converting or sending is shown in the app before you confirm. Your mobile money provider may charge its own fee when you add money.
What are my limits?
Limits depend on your verification level. To see yours, go to Profile → Account Limits.
