Global Accounts

Our secure USD account, backed by stablecoins.

What is a NALA Global Account?

A Global Account is a digital account that lets you store and manage money in USD inside NALA. You can receive USD from abroad, hold it safely, and withdraw or send it locally whenever you need to. It helps you protect value, manage your savings, and stay in control of your money.

Why would I want to store my money in USD?

The US dollar is one of the most stable and widely used currencies in the world. Holding money in USD helps protect your savings from local currency fluctuations and gives you more control over your finances. With a Global Account you can:

  • Protect savings from local currency swings

  • Store money safely in USD

  • Withdraw in your local currency anytime

  • Build towards new features coming soon — such as getting paid in USD and topping up your USD wallet locally

How is my USD balance stored? Is it crypto?

Your USD balance is backed 1:1 by regulated USD stablecoins held with trusted partners.

Here's what that means in simple terms:

  • Stablecoins are a form of cryptocurrency designed to always equal $1, not to fluctuate in value.

  • They are backed by real USD cash or cash-equivalent assets.

  • When you hold $100 in your Global Account, it is fully backed by $100 worth of stablecoins.

  • Your value stays stable — $1 is always $1.

We use stablecoins behind the scenes because they allow us to move money faster, reduce costs, and keep your funds secure. You don't need to understand crypto or do anything special — the experience feels just like holding USD.

Do I have a bank account number?

No. All wallets within NALA — including the TZS Global Account wallet, EU Wallet and UK Wallet — are not linked to a bank account.

Is my money safe if it's backed by a stablecoin?

Yes. Your USD is fully backed and secure. We only use regulated, widely trusted stablecoins issued by reputable institutions. Your balance will always reflect the exact value you hold. That value does not fluctuate.

What can I do with my USD balance?

You can do two things:

1. Store money in USD

Keep funds in your Global Account to protect against currency fluctuations.

2. Send or withdraw locally

convert your USD balance into your local currency and withdraw to mobile money, or send USD to family and contacts in other countries (currently available to Tanzania-based users).

Can I get paid directly into my USD account?

Not yet, but this feature is coming soon! You’ll be able to receive USD payments directly into your USD account from international clients, family abroad, or businesses.

How do I top up my wallet?

At the moment, the only way to add USD to your Global Account is by receiving funds from a NALA sender based in the US.

To top up:

  • Share your NALA tag or mobile number with friends, family, or contacts in the US. They can download the NALA app, sign up as a US sender, and send USD straight into your wallet. The funds will land in your Global Account in USD, ready to hold or withdraw locally.

  • If you're in Tanzania, use Add Money to top up directly from your Tigo Pesa or Airtel Money wallet in TZS. NALA converts it to USD at the live rate before it’s credited to your account.

Can I withdraw my USD locally?

Yes. When withdrawals are available in your country, you'll be able to withdraw your money in your local currency at competitive rates, straight to mobile money.

Can I send money internationally from my USD balance?

Tanzania-based Global Account users can now send USD from their balance to recipients in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Philippines, Gabon, Congo-Brazzaville, CĂŽte d'Ivoire and Nigeria.

This is rolling out to more countries in future phases, for now, users outside Tanzania can receive USD into their Global Account but can't yet send internationally.

Can I change my country of registration? (For instance, can I change my send country from UK to Tanzania?)

Yes, you can change your send country. Please note that if you change your country to any EU country or the UK, you'll be added to a waitlist. We’re currently releasing users in waves, so we’re unable to provide an exact timeline for when you’ll be granted access. We’ll keep you posted.

Are there any fees?

Receiving money into your Global Account is free. Local sends and withdrawals follow the same pricing you normally see in NALA. If you top up your Global Account using local mobile money (Add money), your mobile money provider may charge its own transfer fee — this is separate from NALA's pricing and is paid by you as part of the top-up.

How do I remove my wallet?

You can eject your Global Account by tapping the three dots (⋯) at the top of your wallet screen and selecting Remove wallet.

Please read this carefully before you do anything:

  • Removing your wallet is permanent and irreversible.

  • Once your wallet is ejected, NALA cannot help you recover it, recover your funds, or restore access under any circumstances.

  • NALA is not liable for any funds lost as a result of removing your wallet.

  • Any USD balance left in the wallet at the time of removal is at serious risk and may be unrecoverable.

We strongly recommend you do not remove your wallet. If you're considering it, please withdraw your full balance first and contact our support team so we can help you with whatever issue you're facing. There's almost always a better solution than ejecting your account.

When will the Global Account launch in my country?

Launch timing varies by country. If Global Accounts aren't yet available where you live, joining the waitlist ensures you're among the first to be notified.
